Legal Intern, January 2019 - May 2019

  • Advocate on behalf of eight children with special needs and their families in special education matters through assistance in eligibility meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, discipline matters, mediation, administrative hearings, complaints, court proceedings, and acting as Guardian ad Litem

  • Mediate between child, family, school, court and detention facilities by identifying obstacles, defusing emotions, clarifying legal issues, and teaching parents effective advocacy and negotiation skills

  • Provide technical and legal assistance to families, attorneys and other advocates assisting youth with disabilities involved in the juvenile justice system, particularly to identify community services in lieu of placement
